Scott Smolar, M.D.
Dr. Scott Smolar is a triple-board-certified Adult, Child and Adolescent and Addiction psychiatrist. Dr. Smolar received his medical degree from the University of New England. He chose an osteopathic (DO) course of training due to its emphasis on preventative health and wellness. Treating the individual as a whole by taking into account physical, social, emotional and spiritual aspects is fundamental in his course of training and in his practice of medicine.
Dr. Smolar completed his residency training in adult and child psychiatry at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon and completed a two-year research and clinical fellowship in Addiction Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Smolar has previously been on the board of directors of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, assistant clinical professor at the University of California San Francisco and has worked at San Francisco General Hospital, the San Francisco VA medical center and Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California. In the past Dr. Smolar spent two years working on a Native American reservation with adolescents with both psychiatric and substance-abuse disorders.
I believe that building connection and trust with patients is first and foremost in my therapeutic role. Helping my patients walk through the challenges of mental health and addiction issues has been the focus of my practice for the past 30+ years. Addressing a persons mental, physical, environmental and spiritual needs is vital to the healing process
